  • I can't imagine a downloadable Wii NSO app with 15 games, it would be 50GB.

Even if the emulation was perfect to run those locally (it's not), the download sizes of GC and Wii games would be a barrier to following the same model as NES and SNES. Maybe they work with 3rd parties to bring more of their high-spec games, and Nintendo streams Wii and GC games from the cloud. Since ethernet is included with the new OLED model, they could market "enhanced for cloud gaming" as a new feature of that model (but also available if you buy the new dock for your old switch). Game streaming would certainly benefit from a reliable wired connection. My crazy prediction is that they're going to add a cloud gaming tier to NSO.

Could be a cheap change and that's all anyone used that internal USB port for anyways. I know it makes for a better multiplayer experience if more players use ethernet (this is why they recommended it for Smash), and Splatoon 3 will certainly be very online. I'm wondering why Nintendo thinks that should be built-in now. I see the value of ethernet personally and use a wired adapter myself. That's a feature that doesn't have an obvious reason for existing. I was also thinking about the ethernet port on the OLED model's new dock. I'm obviously expecting N64 games on NSO and a wireless N64 controller. Power isn't necessarily the option Nintendo needs to seek out, but they do need to be more forward in pushing their services as a whole if they want to keep people engaged and subscribed. More power may have enticed some 3rd party devs, but the ones that do want to tap into the userbase are doing fine as is, and the ones that don't want to have pre-conceived notions that would need to be aggressively fought against to sway opinions. Sunshine is a start (no matter how divisive the game itself may be), but that momentum needs to continue and pressure should be laid on until we move past dripfeed and have a steady stream. I want to see more efforts to make the games I grew up with easier to play. I grew up with the Gamecube being my first home console, and I didn't own an N64 until 2003 after it was discontinued. NES and SNES have been covered extensively in numerous re-re-releases whether VC or mini consoles, but those were not the consoles I grew up with that give me sentimental nostalgia. While I wouldn't necessarily ask for a more powerful Wii (using outdated architecture in Wii U didn't help, among a host of other factors), I'd say their preservation and accessibility of games has been.middling, to say the least. I agree with this to a certain extent, but I feel asking for Nintendo should do better when they could do better is appropriate, at least outside of the power race.
